Google Effect’ effecting our memories

Google Effect’ effecting our memories

Google effect is not a new venture from Google inc, rather its and epidemic effecting our abilities to remember things. Google effect is term used to disguise Digital Amnesia. It is the tendency of mind to forget or delete information that can be easily accessed or obtained from an online library using a search engine like Google.
The introduction of vast online libraries in form of World Wide Web has made our brains to rewire them to adapt to the needs of tech world. It had made our brains lazier and languid. Our brains have started storing what is not readily available, and deleting what is readily available online. This has been also proved by a scientific study.
The term was defined and described after a study taken by some eminent American professors. The list includes Betsy Sparrow of Columbia University, Jenny Liu of University of Wisconsin Madison and Daniel M. Wegner of Harvard University. The study was published in 2011.
Kaspersky lab also did some research on digital amnesia in 2015. Their study also highlighted the trend of forgetting or not remembering personal data like phone numbers. According to their study 91 percent of people use internet and 44 percent of people use smartphones to remember details. The study surveyed a total of 600 people of age 16 and above. The study was done on European lands, it included UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
